Meta changed five major things in 2026.

Built from what 695 active Meta accounts taught us about what’s actually breaking.

The DMA is gone. Andromeda took over delivery. VIN-level retargeting broke. Get the full breakdown automotive agencies are using to audit every account before the deadline hits.

What's Inside

Five things every automotive agency needs to fix this quarter.

Each change has a fix attached. No theory. Audit-ready guidance you can apply to every account on your roster.

01

The DMA Is Gone

Nielsen DMA targeting stopped delivering. Comscore Markets replaced it. If your feeds aren't migrated, your campaigns go dark. We walk you through the migration step by step.

Geographic Targeting
02

Andromeda Changed Delivery

Meta's new AI engine treats creative as the primary signal. Audience settings barely matter. 70 to 80 percent of performance now lives in your feed. Here's what to clean up first.

03

Manual Audience Controls Are Gone

Detailed targeting exclusions, granular interests, and VIN-level retargeting inside Meta. All effectively broken. We show you the new audience framework that actually works.

Audience Strategy
04

Budget Concentrates on the Wrong Vehicles

Without VIN-level spend caps, Meta puts 60 percent of your budget on 10 percent of inventory. Most agencies don't catch it until the client does. Here's the fix.

Spend Control
05

Attribution Got Harder to Read

The 28-day window is gone. Over 100 legacy metrics removed. The campaign didn't change, the measurement did. Here are the KPIs that still tell the truth.

Frequently Asked

Questions automotive agencies are asking right now.

What is Meta's Andromeda and how does it affect automotive ads? +

Andromeda is Meta's AI ad delivery engine that rolled out globally in Q1 2026. It shortlists roughly 1,000 candidate ads per impression based on creative signals and user intent, then runs the auction.

For automotive inventory ads, this means 70 to 80 percent of performance now depends on creative quality and feed data (photos, price, mileage, trim) instead of audience targeting. Narrowing your audience can actually reduce performance.

When does Meta's DMA targeting stop working? +

Meta retired Nielsen DMA targeting for automotive model ads. Any campaign still using the old dma_code field stops delivering once the deadline passes. The replacement is Comscore Markets, which uses a different ID structure and must be updated at the vehicle feed level.

Migration should be complete well before the deadline to allow time for testing. The full guide includes the timeline and migration checklist.

What is Comscore Markets and how does it replace Nielsen DMA? +

Comscore Markets is the geographic targeting standard Meta introduced to its automotive advertising infrastructure as the replacement for Nielsen DMA. Comscore Market IDs use a different structure than the old DMA codes and must be mapped at the feed level.

Inventory feed providers handle most of this migration, but agencies should confirm their feed provider has a plan and test delivery before cutting over the full account.

How do I fix budget concentration in Meta AIA campaigns? +

Meta's Advantage+ optimizes for delivery, not lot strategy. Without VIN-level spend caps, roughly 60 percent of budget concentrates on the top 10 percent of inventory.

The fix is building Product Sets that group vehicles by condition, days on lot, make and model, or price range, then attaching dedicated budget to each set. Never mix new, used, and CPO inventory in the same Product Set. BuyerBridge recommends a minimum of 15 vehicles per Product Set for Meta to spend consistently.

Is VIN-level retargeting still possible on Meta? +

Not through Meta's native tools. Meta pushed advertisers toward Advantage+ audiences and away from manually built catalog custom audiences. A shopper who viewed a specific vehicle on a VDP can no longer be reliably retargeted with that exact vehicle inside Ads Manager.

The workaround is an API-driven workflow that builds and maintains catalog custom audiences outside of Meta. BuyerBridge handles this through its VINFlow workflow.

What KPIs should I measure after Meta's 2026 attribution changes? +

Meta removed the 7-day and 28-day view attribution windows, redefined click-through to count link clicks only, and phased out over 100 legacy metrics. The KPIs that still tell the truth are:

  • Cost Per Lead. A form fill is a form fill regardless of attribution.
  • Outbound Clicks. A stable mid-funnel signal.
  • Cost Per Vehicle Sold. The cleanest measure of business outcome. Requires DMS matchback.

Reach and impressions should not be reported as standalone performance indicators.
